What is PNF Stretching and how does it work?
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) is a stretching technique that can improve your range of motion. Many therapists use PNF to help people regain their range of motion after injury or surgery. However, it can also be used by athletes to improve their flexibility. Facilitated stretching can boost your passive range of motion (PROM) and active range of motion (AROM). According to the National Institute of Health, research indicates that PNF stretching may be the most effective method of stretching to increase your ROM.
During a facilitated stretching session, your trainer will guide you in finding proper positioning for the stretch. They will then assist you in your stretch by providing resistance for a short duration of time. With trainer guidance and assistance, you'll repeat as necessary.Â
Many agree that the best part of any personal training session is the stretching at the end! Whether you are a high-level athlete, or are just looking to increase range of motion and stay healthy and fit, our trainers are happy to help.
